Which class is right for you?

American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Classroom Course
(Traditional Instructor-Led)
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Hybrid Course
(Blended Learning / HeartCode®)
Format & Structure
  • All in person: You attend a scheduled class where an instructor teaches everything — lecture, demonstrations, practice, and testing — in one group session.
  • The course is fully instructor-led, with skills practice and testing included in the same class period.

Format & Structure
Two parts:
  • Online portion - HeartCode BLS (purchased separately): self-paced eLearning you complete on your own time (videos, interactive scenarios, knowledge checks).
  • In-person skills session — a shorter hands-on session to practice skills (e.g., CPR, AED use, breaths) and be tested.
  • You do the online learning first, then schedule the skills session with an AHA instructor.
  • Students must provide successful completion of the HeartCode BLS online course (purchased separately) prior to attending the hands-on skills session.
Time Commitment
  • Approximately 3 to 3.5 hours in a single session — the full class covers all teaching and hands-on practice.

Time Commitment
  • Online: Approximately two hours (varies by your pace and knowledge).
  • Skills session: Approximately one hour.
Learning Experience
  • Instructor interaction throughout: You learn the theory and practice together with an instructor guiding you step-by-step.
  • Some learners prefer live teaching and immediate answers to questions.
  • Often better for first-time learners who want the structure of a full class.
Learning Experience
  • Self-paced learning: You absorb the cognitive material on your own schedule, which some people find easier to fit into work/family life.
  • The hands-on session focuses only on practical skills, since you’ve already learned the theory online.

Certification
  • Same official AHA BLS Provider card upon successful completion of either format.
  • The card is valid for two years from the date of completion.
  • eCards are issued within 24 hours of course completion (Monday - Friday).

Which Is Best for You?
Choose Classroom if:
  • You learn best with live instruction and group interaction.
  • You want everything done in one scheduled session, with less juggling of online and in-person parts.

Which Is Best for You?
Choose Hybrid if:
  • You prefer learning at your own pace.
  • You want to minimize time in a classroom.
  • You’re comfortable with online learning and then coming in just for skills practice.
